HES (Higher Education Studies)

Higher Education Studies (HES) are first-year university subjects offered to high-achieving government school students as part of their VCE program in their final year of secondary schools (Year 12 in most cases). Each HES is equivalent in duration and workload to a VCE Unit 3–4 sequence and contributes ATAR points and potential university credits. Students may enrol in only one HES, selected through a merit-based application process involving the CHES enrolment committee and university partners.

HES courses are delivered through a hy-flex model combining regular online learning as well as some on-site and university campus-based experiences. Classes are scheduled flexibly, including outside standard hours to accommodate student timetables. Students can gain exposure to university resources and take part in additional excursions and masterclasses to enhance their transition to university education.

These benefits can support academic growth, smooth transition to university, and enhance future career pathways.

Refer to the HES Handbook for full details on how to apply for a HES through CHES.

CHES is proud to be partnering with the following Victorian universities

CHES is located on the lands of the Wurundjeri People and we wish to acknowledge them as Traditional Owners. Our school community pays respects to their Elders, past, and present and extends this respect to Aboriginal Elders of other communities. CHES respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Victoria and pays respect to the ongoing living cultures of First Peoples.
